In few movies Same song will be rendered by two singers because of the situations like two different versions one by mother and other by child or one happy version or one sad version or sung by two different characters. Some examples
Dhoori Dhoori Dummakka dhoori" ( thendral sudum) -one by P.Susheela other by S,Janaki
Varusham maasam thethi paardthu - Mani Osai- one by P.Susheela other by S,Janaki
En kannil odum puthu vellam - Kaadu - one by P.Susheela other by S,Janaki
Mannil vandha Nilave - Nilave Malare -one by P.Susheela other by Shobha Chandrasekar.

Many more can be listed.
But in Rare situation the same song is recorded by two singers and one will be placed in movie.
1. In "Manalane Mangaiyin Bhagyam" Movie there is a famous song "Thesulavuthe Then malarale" sung by Ghantasala and P.Susheela. In telugu also it was recorded with P.Susheela and later it was sung by Jikki because producer wanted to give atleast one song to Jikki who is his lucky mascot. It was informed to P.Susheela and She respected his sentiment and it was recorded with Jikki.
2. Recently I was watching a Telugu Interview of Smt. S,Janaki and the interviewer asked the rift between her and Savithri. She told " A beautiful melody was recorded by her for the movie "Padi thaanda Pathini" and Savithri told "I wont act if Janaki sings. I need P.Susheela's voice for me". So produced made P.Susheela to sing that song. Eventhough she given a hit like "singara velane deva", Savithri doesnt like to act with her voice. That was the issue. So not only the producers, the actresses also can change the singers. unfortunatley Both the versions are not available now.
3.Chinna gounder was remade in Telugu as "Chinna Rayudu" and the song "muthu mani maala" is also used in telugu version. P.Susheela Sang the Telugu Version and she went abroad for a program. After few days they have changed one line and because of unavailability of P.Susheela they made Chitra to sing that song.
Due to this kind of reasons the song will be released by two singers.I have found few rare songs like this.
1. chettulekkagalava oh narahari ( Chenchu Lakshmi) . One version is Sung by Ghantasala and Jikki and Other version is sung by P.B.Srinivas and P.Susheela.

A popular male singer was conducting a musical program in a Telugu channel. During this time, he being a huge fan of lyricist Veturi Sundara Ramamurthy, was heaping praises and talking about the latter’s work etc. He also made a self- declared statement and asserted that he and another female singer(not P.Susheela) sang the maximum number of songs for Veturi. When I heard this, I was shocked as well as surprised for a moment because during the time period that Veturi started penning the songs, it was P.Susheela who was at the peak and so a question arose in my mind as to how the other female singer could have rendered the maximum number of songs for him! I wanted to probe into this and started doing my research on Veturi’s songs. This was a difficult task for me because for example : It is easy to gauge who the singer is based on his/her voice and identify the person. One can also figure out the actors/actresses when we look at them on the screen, however to identify a lyricist based on a lyrics in a song is almost impossible. Until now, after searching a lot of databases, I could find information about the lyricists, only for half the number of songs from my entire collection(which runs into thousands). After much hard work, I could gather info on 1500 songs that P.Susheela had sung for Veturi. If I had all the references, perhaps the number might go up to 2000. This is no ordinary achievement for any singer! As far as I know, based on the data, during that era, the other female singer whom this male popular singer quoted as having sung the max songs could have rendered only 1000 to 2000 songs in total(inclusive of all lyricists).I was really sad thinking about this singer’s misrepresentation and his crooked bent frame of mind. To mislead the public without proper evidence and based on whims is something not right. If anybody can prove his statement with evidence, that would be welcome too!
Veturi started off his career as a lyric writer from 1974 and was at his peak in the 80’s and 90’s .Like Vairamuthu in Tamil, he had garnered fame, stardom and was considered one of the best writers of his time. His writing style was not confined to a particular genre, but extended to different types like classics, melodies, carnatic, commercial etc. He could create classics and commercial songs with the same ease. He was awarded by both the national and state govts for his contribution to Telugu cinema in general. He passed away in 2010 and is still a source of inspiration for all new comers.
Let’s have a look at some of the other telugu lyricists of his time. During the era of Kannadasan and Vaali in Tamil, it was C.Narayana Reddy, Aatreya,Dasarathi,Veeturi,SriSri,Kosaraju,Anisetty,Rajasree,Devulapalli and Arudra who were prominent in the telugu film industry.Among them Dr.C.Narayana Reddy was on par with Kannadasan when it came to popularity. This was mostly in the 60’s and 70’s.However things changed towards the latter part of the70’s where there was a inflow of new talents which included Veturi, Dasari Narayana Rao,Mallemala,Dasam Gopala Krishna,Gopi,Jaladhi etc. The 80’s saw the emergence of Sirivennela Sitaramasastry,Vennelakanti ,Bhuvanachandra and Jonnavithula as lyricists. However Veturi still retained his top position until the 90’s among all the lyricists. In the 50’s, it was mostly SamudralaSr,Samudrala Jr, Pingali and Malladhi who coined most of the lyrics at that time.
It is also interesting to note that P.Susheela had rendered 1300 +songs of Dr.C.Narayana Reddy and 1000 songs of Atreya which is a remarkable feat by itself! This could be possible only for an authentic singer like P.S and who else could step into her shoes? Write-up Coutresy : Srividya Sanjay. US
